About this sip step up calculator

A step-up SIP increases your monthly investment every year, usually in line with salary growth. This calculator shows how a small annual increase can compound into a much larger corpus than a flat SIP.

How a step-up SIP is calculated

A step-up SIP starts with a monthly amount P and increases that amount by a percentage s each year. Inside each year, contributions are treated like a regular SIP at the current monthly amount. After 12 months, the monthly SIP becomes P × (1 + s) for the next year, and so on.

This tool compounds monthly at your expected annual rate. Year 1 uses your starting SIP; year 2 uses the stepped-up SIP, while the existing corpus continues to grow. The year-wise table shows invested capital and estimated value after each year.

Manual calculation is tedious because the monthly amount changes. Spreadsheets loop year by year; the calculator does that loop for you. Results remain estimates: markets, taxes, and fund expenses are not included.

Why step-up SIPs matter for salaried investors

Incomes in India often rise with promotions and inflation. If your SIP stays frozen for 15 years, you may under-save relative to rising lifestyle and education costs. A 10% annual step-up on a ₹10,000 SIP becomes ₹11,000 next year and keeps climbing, closer to how take-home pay actually grows.

Step-up also fights lifestyle inflation: you pre-commit a share of future raises to investing. Families working with financial planners in Bicholi Mardana often pair a base SIP with a 5–15% annual step-up, reviewed when bonuses or EMIs change.

Do not step up so aggressively that you skip SIPs in a tight month. A sustainable 8–10% step-up usually beats an ambitious 20% plan you abandon after two years.

Step-up SIP vs flat SIP

A flat SIP of ₹10,000 for 20 years at a given rate invests ₹24 lakh. The same start with 10% yearly step-up invests far more over two decades because later years contribute larger monthly amounts. The extra invested capital, not only market return, drives much of the higher corpus.

If cash flow is tight, start flat and add step-up after the first salary hike. If cash flow is comfortable, start step-up immediately. Wealth management services in Indore can align step-up SIPs with home loans, children’s education, and retirement so one goal does not crowd out another.

How to use this calculator

Enter current investment (if any), starting monthly SIP, years, expected return, and step-up percentage. Compare the result with the standard SIP calculator using the same start amount and zero step-up. The gap is the value of increasing contributions.

Use conservative returns. Then decide a step-up you can honour after rent, EMIs, and emergency savings. A mutual fund advisor in Indore can suggest whether equity, hybrid, or a combination fits the stepped-up cash flow.

Frequently asked questions

What is a SIP step-up?
A SIP step-up automatically increases your monthly SIP by a chosen percentage each year, typically to match salary growth and inflation.
What step-up percentage should I use?
Many salaried investors use 5–10% a year. Choose a rate you can continue after expenses. Higher step-ups only help if you actually fund them every year.
Is a step-up SIP better than a regular SIP?
A step-up SIP usually builds a larger corpus because you invest more in later years. A regular SIP is simpler if income is uncertain. The better option is the one you can sustain.
