About this sip calculator

A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) lets you invest a fixed amount every month in mutual funds. Use this SIP calculator to see how regular investing can grow into a long-term corpus, then speak with a mutual fund advisor in Indore if you want a plan tailored to your goals.

How is SIP return calculated manually?

SIP returns are typically estimated with a future-value formula for recurring monthly investments. If P is your monthly SIP amount, r is the expected monthly rate of return (annual rate divided by 12), and n is the number of months, the estimated future value is:

FV = P × [((1 + r)^n − 1) / r] × (1 + r)

Example: a ₹5,000 monthly SIP for 10 years (120 months) at 12% a year uses r = 0.12 / 12 = 0.01. The formula gives an estimated corpus of about ₹11.6 lakh, of which ₹6 lakh is invested and the rest is estimated gain. Actual mutual fund returns are not guaranteed and will vary with markets, fund choice, and costs.

This calculator compounds monthly, which is a practical approximation for most equity and hybrid SIPs. It does not deduct expense ratios, exit loads, or taxes. Treat the output as a planning estimate, not a promise of performance.

What is a good SIP return rate in India?

There is no single “good” SIP return. Long-term Indian equity mutual fund SIPs have historically delivered double-digit annualised returns over 10–15 year periods for some diversified categories, but past returns do not predict the future. Conservative planning often uses 10–12% for diversified equity SIPs, 7–9% for hybrid funds, and 6–7% for debt-oriented SIPs.

A useful test is whether the assumed rate is higher than inflation plus a margin for your goal. If education costs rise at 8% and you assume 8% SIP returns, your real surplus may be thin. Many investors in Indore work with an advisor to match SIP categories to time horizon: equity for goals beyond 7 years, a mix for 3–7 years, and debt or liquid funds for nearer needs.

“Good” also depends on risk. A 15% assumed return may look attractive on a calculator but can be unrealistic for a conservative investor. Use a rate you can live with if markets fall for two or three years.

Difference between SIP and lumpsum

SIP invests a fixed sum at regular intervals. Lumpsum invests a large amount at one time. SIP reduces the need to time the market and averages purchase cost over months (rupee-cost averaging). Lumpsum can work well when you already have surplus cash and a long horizon, because the full amount stays invested longer.

SIP is usually easier for salaried investors: money moves from income to investment every month. Lumpsum suits bonuses, property sale proceeds, or accumulated savings. Many families combine both: a lumpsum to start, then a SIP to keep the habit going.

If you are comparing SIP vs lumpsum on this site, also try the SIP + Lumpsum calculator. For personal allocation, wealth management services in Indore at Wealth Stream can map SIPs to education, retirement, or other goals after risk profiling.

How to use this SIP calculator

Enter any existing investment, your monthly SIP amount, years, and expected annual return. Submit to see invested amount, estimated wealth gain, expected corpus, and a year-wise table. Change one input at a time to see sensitivity: for example, raising tenure often helps more than stretching an aggressive return assumption.

After you have a working number, decide the monthly amount you can continue through market cycles. Consistency matters more than a perfect first estimate. Financial planners in Bicholi Mardana at our Indore office can then suggest suitable mutual fund categories and review the plan annually.

Frequently asked questions

How is SIP return calculated manually?
Use the future-value formula for a monthly annuity: FV = P × [((1 + r)^n − 1) / r] × (1 + r), where P is monthly SIP, r is monthly rate, and n is months. This calculator applies that compounding approach as an estimate.
What is a good SIP return rate in India?
Planning assumptions often range from about 10–12% for long-term diversified equity SIPs, lower for hybrid or debt. Actual returns vary and are not guaranteed. Choose a rate that matches your risk and time horizon.
What is the difference between SIP and lumpsum?
SIP invests regularly in smaller amounts; lumpsum invests a large amount once. SIP supports rupee-cost averaging and cash-flow discipline. Lumpsum keeps more money invested from day one. Many investors use both.
